Mental Health

COVID-19 has led to a dramatic change in our lives and working practices, with uncertainty and new challenges for us all. According to oft-repeated statistics, a quarter of us will experience mental ill health at some point in our lives – and the pandemic is likely to exacerbate this.

We’ve been working on a number of mental health projects over the past year and it has given us a real insight into the importance of taking mental health seriously. Some of this has been specific to the pandemic and others are more generic. We are often telling stories and working with people that need to be treated with care and sensitivity.

It has been fascinating and helped us to learn more about the subject, making us realise the importance of ensuring employers have their own stand-alone mental health policies that deal with prevention and response – and provide the solutions in place that ensure the wellbeing of their workforce. We hope the films we are making help them communicate their messages. They’ve been educational and deeply inspiring for us to get involved in.

Peter has been like a caged animal pacing around at home or in the office wanting to get out filming again. Now he has a spring back in his step having completed a number of shoots already and another 10 lined up for October.

During lockdown we found ways to film remotely, but there is nothing like getting a camera out and going filming. We hope this is a positive sign for the industry and it’s great to be working with our camera crews again, who have been through a tough time during lockdown.

It’s been a creative and logistical challenge working within new Covid health and safety guidelines. What has been surprising is how we have managed to shoot everything we need or been able to overcome certain challenges by taking a different creative approach.

What has been awesome, is that despite these challenges, we’ve been able to make films in exactly the same way – thanks to camera technology and brilliant crews.

Arthur Wooster sadly passed away last week.

He was an important part of Worldmark’s story, filming some of the most important films Worldmark has produced. He shot the first two major films Worldmark made - White Rock and Riddle of the Sands. Then over the years he was the DOP on many other films including the documentaries Supermilers and Born to Run with Seb Coe, various Olympic Films, the 1982 and 1990 World Cup Official Films, a major film for Coca-Cola and fundraising films with Prince Charles.

Even though he worked on major movies he would still come back and work on our smaller productions bringing creativity, boundless energy and all kinds of ingenious ways to film. He put cameras on bobsleighs and ski jumpers, fitted them to hover mowers to track footballers and often took personal risks to get amazing shots.

He will be missed and we hope his spirit lives on in the company.
