Fade up on a desolate RAF airfield near Ipswich. The sound of the black crows scattering into the sky plays in stark contrast to the decaying yet still majestic fighter jets, all lined up in a row on the tarmac, but going nowhere.
The silence is broken by a convoy of vehicles. A low-loader carrying a high-performance Audi A4. A souped up Mini Countryman. A follow-van full of camera rigs, operational and monitoring equipment and crew.
This was the scene of one of our more exciting shoots. Camera Revolution has been supplying specialist camera equipment to the film and television industry for over 20 years. The scene is set to test their latest piece of kit, a new camera arm and jib that can execute a number of new camera moves that other big rigs can’t achieve, called simply ‘Tyr’. And we were there to film it in action, working with the Camera Revolution team and Bickers Action, stunt-driving specialists in film and TV.
We spent two amazing days at this RAF airfield, filming behind the scenes footage and car chase sequences to create a promotional film and social media campaign for this unique new car mounted rig. The story we created was a chase scene, involving the Audi A4 and Mini Countryman. Because the Tyr rig is so versatile, we adapted the story around four ‘cycles’ of car to car action – back and front rigging for both cars, where all of the USPs of the rig could be brought to life. From this we created a 60 second promo, a documentary ‘short’ and a series of 15 second social media teaser/explainer films.
One featured TYR & Mini Libra Rig, one high-end follow Maxima Rig both shooting on RED’s. One main camera covering all the behind the scenes footage from the action sequences, plus a gimbal rig. Countless GoPros. And of course a drone. A load of kit. An amazing team effort. A load of fun.
